About Us
Ethos
Street & Saddle is an equestrian athleisure brand based in Vancouver, Canada. Always inspired by the beauty and power of horses and equestrian sport, quality clothing and leather goods are made to transition flawlessly from saddle to street, and everywhere in between. Combining nostalgia with modernism, tradition with innovation, Street & Saddle was recently named one of Vancouver's best up and coming designers.
Craftsmanship/ethics
We strongly believe in the importance of sustainability in the textile industry. Woven with unethical treatment of workers, pollution, and the marketing of unhealthy consumer behaviour, there is much to be done. Though we are little, we strive every day to contribute to a solution, from organic fibres to classic design and quality manufacturing. We split manufacturing in between our East Vancouver studio (you must come visit), and Precision Patterns, an insanely talented and experienced local factory.
The team
Katelyn Woodburn had the idea for S&S when she was in her teens, and thereafter spent years planning, designing and learning. When she met Tina Kam (in a barn, of course), they discovered a kinship in their obsession with horses, fabric and "making things" (Tina now hand makes all of our belts herself). From initial conversations to launch of the business was just four short months (how we did it, we do not know). Shortly after, Katelyn enlisted the help of a talented former classmate, Ciel Wu, for technical design and production for an insane Fashion Week deadline. What started with twenty hour sewing binges has culminated into an invaluable addition to our tiny but mighty team.
Vision
What's next? The best thing about a start-up business is that we can constantly go back to the drawing board with a fresh sheet of paper. We are gradually moving away from our lifestyle goods and ramping up apparel and accessories. We're eschewing the traditional pricing model and prioritizing good design that we think our customers will fall in love with, whether a piece takes an hour or three days to make.
And as always, dressing our inspirational ladies to the nines.
